GLASS
& PLEXI.
Plexiglass is lightweight Lucite and if it breaks, artwork falls off the wall or the like-it won’t shatter. It does however scratch a little bit easier than glass and requires different cleaning techniques and solutions.
Glass, while fragile, is still generally less susceptible to scratching (making it easier to clean), but it can also be significantly heavier than plexi.
For larger picture frames— over 16” X 20”— the weight difference between glass and plexi can be significant, which is why glass is more frequently used for smaller picture frames.

MATTING.
8-PLY MAT
4-PLY MAT
8-Ply mats are twice as thick as the conventional 4-Ply mats and are naturally museum quality archival in form. This means that they are made of 100% cotton fiber. 100% Cotton fiber pulp (99% Alpha Cellulose), which does not contain any post consumer waste recycled pulp.
Paper made from wood pulp naturally contains acidic compounds, and these will cause the paper to turn yellow and become brittle over time. Matting and mounting boards can also contain acid, which affects both the boards and the art framed with them.
This mat is the usual preference of professional photographers not only for its preservation quality but for its depth and presence.
4-Ply mats are extremely versatile. Starting with a wide range of colors and even textures making it broadly customizable for any kind of art and budget.
This matting is available in a gradient scale of archival-ness beginning with non-archival decorative matting up to 100% Cotton fiber pulp matting (99% Alpha Cellulose).
The fun part about using these mats is that you can create aesthetic designs that match any style and budget.
